Bee - Symbol of Fertility & the Honey of LifeI find it appropriate to write about bees now, because my house has become infested with them this fall (2004). As the weather cooled they were looking for a place of warmth to continue their growth. They found the perfect entrance to their new home within an overhang in my roof. Living in the country side, in an old home, many insects like to find dwelling here for the winter. Most of which I have become a custom to, only the most feared of all insects is the bee. Due to its sharp sting of protection and defense. Everyday I discover that anywhere from 30 to 100 bees find their way out of their nest and into my living room. One of them I happen to discover on my floor while walking barefoot. Needless to say, shoes have been worn in the house since. Bee’s have been mystical symbols thought out the ages. The Ancient Egyptians believed that the bee was created out of the Tears of the sun god Ra. Due to their association with light and the golden colour of honey, they are referred to as a solar insect, and carry many properties as the Sun in Astrology. Bees create several things for us humans to enjoy, and not for just humans but they also aid in the pollination of flowers. The bee has long been associated with the making of their sugary food – Honey. All bees are essentially honey bees, they gather and pollinate. Bees work together for each other. They live in masses within homes that they create out of honeycombs. Throughout the study of bees many people have discovered how to work together harmoniously. They create for us one of the most delicious forms of natural sugar, and we can also use their homes to provide warmth and light in our own, buy the bees wax that we can make candles from. Due to their large amount of productivity and creation of resources, when bees show up in ones life, we must examine our own productivity. Are we doing enough or too much? Are we taking time to relax and smell the flowers? Are we absorbing the beauty that surrounds us in everything we do? The bee has many sensitivities, and if you get stung by one, your sensitivities will arise as well. Their fertility symbol is that of it's phallic like stinger. Many people are highly allergic to a bee sting and I am quite thankful that no one in my direct family is. For the legs of the bee are their most sensitive area of the body, that is where they taste the nectar of the flowers. For a flower the nectar is the source of life. If you are allergic to bees you should ask, are you enjoying the nectar of life? Now I find it is quite interesting that a honey comb is made of six sides, and this year being 2004 adds up to the number 6. Their honeycomb is also associated with the sacred geometry symbol the Mercaba. So think of the bee as a symbol to bring in the reminder, “As above, So Below”. Nancy Arruda
