Lunar Phases

By Nancy Arruda

The Moon is in constant motion just as the Earth is.  From an Earth perspective we only see the glorious moon in the evening, wherever the evening shall be.  However in the period of 28.5 days or evenings you will notice if you look up at her that there is always something just a little bit different from one day to the next.  If you only see her on a weekly basis then you will see the difference more clearly.

In the period of 28.5 days the Moon travels through a cycle with the Sun.  She is always the same moon that hangs in the sky, however her dance with the sun is different every time we look upon her smiling face.  There are even days when you look upon the evening sky and cannot see any reflection of the moon at all.  For the light that she reflects depends on her dance with the sky and how she is aligned.  For the Moon is but total darkness and when we see light upon her it is the light of the Sun that we see reflecting off her beautiful face.  Providing a night light for everyone who sits in the darkness.

Her dance starts with a slight sliver in the sky.  She is just starting to emerge from her period of rest.  She is not illuminated by direct sunlight for the sliver is so small that it is barely noticeable at all.  This period is known as the New Moon, when you look into the night sky and see darkness.  It is a time of using your senses of creative visualization.  To be able to project, and begin the birthing process of any new projects.  For it is now that one will have clarity, trust and strength.  The ability to tap into inner and outer sight is with you now. The Moon is waking up from a restful sleep, to start the preparation of her Sun dance.

Her waking phase is know as Waxing, and know when we glance upon the evening sky we see that there is visibility of the Moon but there is still less then one-half illuminating by direct sunlight.  This phase is known as Waxing Crescent Moon.  The illuminated part of the Moon is increasing with growth, expanding slowly.  It is a time of awakening our senses, as we see struggles that lead to opportunity.  We have the ability now to cleanse, love and tap into wisdom.

Her cosmic dance continues as we can start to see one-half of the Moon is illuminated by sunlight.  The light is increasing and this phase is known as the First Quarter Moon.  For now we experience the kinesthetic motion and movement.  It is decision time for most, a time to act upon the inner expression of purity.  For the introspection that is occurring now is showing us what we need to do in order to break away.

The light of the Sun continues it’s reflection upon the Moon increasing reflection so that one can see in the night sky that more then one-half of the Moon is illuminated.  The Waxing Gibbous Moon has arrived continuing the visual of our inner and outer sight.  For now there is strength within, a sense of clarity and trust.  Use your analyzing powers of the mind to evaluate, prepare and work towards perfection.

A time of fulfillment has occurred as the Sun and Moon are now on opposite sides of the Earth.  The Full Moon now is in balance; full illumination is what we experience, as we look into the sky.  It is time to tap into communication via, any type of auditory speech hearing or sound.  For through this tool we realize the awareness of renewal and enlightenment.

The gala event is coming to a close and it is time for the light to descend.   We have entered into the Waning Gibbous phase. The Sun pulls away now in the opposite direction and the Moon is less than fully showing in the sky, but it is still more than one-half illuminated, the light of the Sun is disseminating.  The kinesthetic motion returns and the movement is going in the other direction.  There is stillness yet the power of love and wisdom is there.  It is a time to share, distribute and teach what you have learned this far.

It is time for the last dance as the Last Quarter Moon enters into being.  One-half of the Moon appears illuminated by the Sun with the illumination decreasing.  Our senses of touch, taste and smell get stronger.  For now is the time to tap into the kinesthetic senses of love, wisdom and stillness once again.  To open up to realignment and revision.

It is time to take a bow for the Waning Crescent has arrived.  This is the Balsamic phase, where the Moon is partly but less than one-half illuminated by the Sun.  The illumination continues to decrease and now the lights are low.  For all there is that the auditory hearing of speech and sound to find your way around.  As our dance comes to completion, the transformations are apparent.  As the compassion within illuminates our hearts, release transcends into renewal as we walk into the darkness of the night sky.

Until tomorrow, when we dance again.
