Planets and Asteroids in Astrology
Each Planet in Astrology has a vibration, which is felt within each individual either on a conscious level or on an un-conscious level. The Planets that are closer to the Earth have a stronger vibration, or perhaps because it is closer to the Earth we can feel their energy more intensely . The Moon, although scientifically it is not viewed as a planet, has a strong push - pull action with the Earth. As we know the moon controls the oceans tides. Think…the human body is made up of mostly water, so do you think that maybe the moon has some effect on the human body as well? The Sun and the Moon are viewed as Luminaries, but to keep it simple astrologers refer to them as planets. In the Ancient teachings, Astrologers only used the first seven planets, due to the limitation of the 7th planet Saturn and the technical abilities to see beyond that. They were the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. All of these planets are referred to as Inner Planets or Personal Planets. As other planets were discovered they too were introduced into Western Astrology. Due to there distance from the Sun they were considered to be Outer Planets, Transpersonal Planets or Generational Planets. These planets are Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Many astrologers also use Asteroids and other bodies that reside in the Universe. The main asteroid used by most western astrologers is Chiron; Chiron has such a strong impact in spiritual astrology, I refer to him as a planet as well. (Keep in mind that he does not fit the scientific definition of a planet due to his size and irregular orbit.) There are 4 other Major Asteroids used a lot within astrology, Ceres, Pallus Athena, Vesta and Juno. There are also many Minor Asteroids used by many astrologers, each one chosen specifically by the astrologer that can relate to them on a personal level. These four major asteroids depict aspects of the feminine Goddess found within each individual.
