What’s your sign?! Has my Sun-Sign changed? Am I someone else now?
There is much confusion around this statement made by an astronomer which is different than an astrologer. Most astronomers in today’s time are not astrologers. I can easily say that I am not an astronomer, but that I have a vibrational understanding of the universe through astrology. I will do my best to address all the questions, as they are questions that leave us to ponder many different aspects of astrology. All of the concerns are NOT necessarily pertaining to the same issue within astrology. There are many methods to astrology, depending on the system that you use; i.e. Western (which is what I use) or Vedic, Chinese, Egyptian, Mayan and I am sure there are more! Each system has its own set of beliefs infused into its structure. Neither system is wrong, as the interpretations accommodate for the truth within the individual system and within the individual. From my perspective, Astrology is all about gaining understanding into who you are and finding your own truth from an energetic perspective. Aside from just taping into your personal understanding, one can incorporate how to best interact with the planetary vibrations that are taking place in the sky today. Therefore; astrology is a great tool to assist with making beneficial choices in life. My personal belief when studding anything to do with finding your own unique truth is “takes what you want, leave what you don’t” or “keep the information that resonates with you, and let go of any information that does not resonate with your inner being”. So that being said, you are the sign that resonates with you the most, you can be your ‘old’ sign that you were born with, or if you resonate to this 13 sign astrology system, you can also be the ‘new’ sign that you are being told you are. In truth, it is up to you, but remember if you are going to incorporate this ‘new’ method of astrology then the rules of the game are changing, and a Sag is no longer defined by the old interpretations of Sagittarius, as he will have to disassociate to some of his identifiers or keyword characteristics to accommodate for the additional sign. So the question now becomes… are you open enough to change your beliefs, and incorporate a whole new structure of identification within your vibrational nature? To identify the answers to your questions, first you must be aware of the questions. Are there 13 Constellations? Well in fact there are many more constellations in the universe, however for astrological purposes; we use the constellations that cross the ecliptic, in which there ARE 13 of them. In traditional western astrology we use 12 of them to make up the zodiac. Keep in mind that astrology was developed more than 2,500 years ago, and yes over time things do alter to meet the needs of humanity. We grow and evolve as a society, therefore, our vibrations grow and evolve. The universe does change its path, and as human we live in a 12 calendar month, with 24 hours a day, each hour being made up of 60 minutes. However the universe does not follow this pattern, WE DO as humans, because that is what we are taught and that is what we live by based on our teachings. As humans we accommodate our human time clock in many ways. We are told a day is 24 hours long and that this timing is based on the rotation of the earth. But did you know that the earth rotates in 23 hour and 56 minutes? That is not 24 hours? We accommodate this ‘time’ error by incorporating a leap year, adding one day every 4 years to our calendar. There are other spiritual teachings that reference the number 12 as a significant number, and to get into all of it, well that could be a book in itself. However, when you look to the number 13; that throws everything that we have learned out the window… or does it? From my perspective (keep in mind astrological interpretations are perspectives and not a concrete science), 13 constellations would then get us to question every universal law that is set in place, especially the Law of Polarity. A law that states; “everything in the existence has a polar opposite”. Astrologically speaking, our SUN SIGN, is where the SUN is located in the universe on the day and time of our birth. If there are 13 signs in astrology, then what would be your polar opposite sign? Additionally, leaving the question, where would your Earth-Sign be? The Earth is always directly opposite the Sun in a natal chart, if your Sun Sign is your personality, your earth sign is how you play that personality out in life on earth. It is always a polar opposite, and if you shift your earth sign out of polar opposite, then you will live in a world of confusion, lacking identity, purpose, skill and foresight. You would have no earthly identity, no human purpose to live out on earth. So who/what is this great mystery constellation? The answer is … Ophiuchus. A mortal man and not a god! When I look to the mythology of Ophiuchus (not truly knowing where his name originated from, as he was a mortal man with the name of Asclepius) he is depicted with a serpent entwined around his body and arms. A symbol which has been associated to the medical profession (only in the medical profession, the snake is vertical, and in the universe the snake is horizontal, which to me speaks volumes to his importance/unimportance) . Asclepius was a mortal man who was raised by the Centaur Chiron and he became an incredible healer. So great in fact, that he could also bring the dead back to life, with this notion, Hades (Pluto) was so outraged by this, that he begged Zeus (Jupiter) to kill him off as Hades would be left without a ‘job’ as ruler of the dead in the underworld. As Blood is thicker than water, Zeus ruler of the gods and brother to Hades, struck him down with a bolt of lightening and placed him in the heavens so that Ophiuchus could be remembered, for the great things that he did on earth. Ophiuchus is located beside the transformer, Scorpio, (the snake is a symbol of transformation) and Sagittarius (the sign of the Centaur and higher knowledge). Ophiuchus, is not forgotten in astrology, because his vibrations are blended harmoniously between the two signs, just as his constellation is. As far as being a great healer, well, in astrology we can leave that up to the asteroid Chiron, the teacher, healer and astrologer. Remember, Asclepius, was a mortal and not a god, and although he did great things and performed ‘miracles’ his status remains that of a mortal (vertical snake) who resides in the sky. Even though this constellation crosses the ecliptic, it is not included in the standard constellations of the zodiac for several reasons. The Sun is said to pass straight through this sign from Scorpio into Sagittarius, therefore it is NOT a sun sign. According to some research that I did, even if the sun did travel through it (which is contradictory from one site to another) it would only be there for 19 days, instead of a standard 30 days, which would mean in some way that if you had this as a Sun sign constellation, there would be no polarity within your sun sign. Your earth sign would then be out of balance, and the law of polarity would not exist in your reality. It would also throw off the balance of the Zodiac and have us creating another system in astrology (which by the way I am open to reading about, and have done reading about in the past). (If you are interested in learning a new method of astrology then I suggest the man who ‘invented’ this method, named Walter Berg who developed the 13-sign astrology in 1995… keep in mind, that is his ‘pen name’ as he was born Barry Parkinson… did I mention something earlier around, lack of identity?) Now on to another question that was raised about this article around “Has my Sign changed due to a wobble in the earth?” Some people stated that they heard the sun sign was changing due to a wobble in the earth. That the earth’s axis is off balance so would that cause our sun sign to change? The answer is NO. The earth tilt’s its axis every season, and that is why if you live further away from the equator we have noticeable seasons. Due to the shift, the sun’s rays alter where they are ‘landing’ or ‘shining’ upon the earth. If you live really far north on the globe, then you will understand why there are 40 days of nights and/or 40 days of days depending on the season you are in. It has to do with the degree of the earth’s axis tilt. When we have a major earth event, like a tsunami or earth quake, the axis tilt may shift by milliseconds, that too affects our ecological balance, but by no means does it change our Sun Sign. We are on the Earth not the Sun, and the earth is still following its orbital path, it’s not like we got ejected off path and are floating in a completely unusual place within the zodiac, and even if we were, the sun is still in the sign that it is in. The Sun did not shift, the earth did, so it would not change our sun sign unless the sun shifted. However, as I mentioned before there are many systems to astrology, and even within a system, like western astrology, there are different methods or ways to calculate for house placements within western astrology. I use the Placidus house system which is the most common house system in Western astrology. However if you are interested in learning about the different house systems then I suggest researching them for yourself. Just search “different astrological house systems”. Now based on the system that I use, if the earth did have a funky axis tilt change, then there may be some alterations based on the time and space that you were born at, as this would change the ‘space’ component. Keep in mind; the change would NOT go back in time to alter your chart, but any charts done after the shift may be slightly altered as they would be calculated differently based on the new dynamic of the earth. So that being said, your sun sign will not change, but the standard rising sign or house cusps signs could change in time (but not within a natal chart of the past, remember you are born in a specific time and space, and after your birth that time and space does not change, therefore YOUR actual sign would not change, but should you cast a new chart, then there may be a different house and NOT planetary sign due to the new locational information of the tilt on the earth). I hope everyone found some value in this article, as it was interesting to research and write. So in conclusion to the questions, NO your sign did not change unless you change the method of astrology that you are using. But that goes for any type of astrology, as a Sagittarius is not a Rooster; however, a Rooster may be a Sag J (I am a Sagittarius born in the year of the Rooster!, with Virgo rising, Moon in Aquarius, Mercury in Capricorn, Venus in Sagittarius, Mars in Aquarius, Jupiter in Libra, Saturn in Taurus, Uranus in Libra, Neptune in Scorpio and Pluto in Virgo… but my Sun Sign is STILL Sagittarius!) BE spirited and enjoy learning new concepts as you find your own personal truth!
